My canvas paintings incorporate the architectural materials of abstract painting.
the canvas, linen canvas, and stretchers are the subject and object of the paintings, my
paintings refer to themselves.
raw canvas, linen canvas and canvas threads have their own natural inherent color, I don’t find
it necessary to add another color to them in the form of paint in order for them to qualify as a
painting. Therefor no metaphors are involved.
my works also have no titles.
The outdoor canvas thread paintings are created in public parks and private lands throughout
the NE of the US.
the forms of these outdoor canvas thread paintings are made by the wind and gravity.
I make a black and white photographic record of the paintings after they have completed their
fall to the ground.
after photographing them I gather up the canvas thread painting and leave the location.
later I place the canvas thread, which is no longer a painting in a plexiglass box.
these boxes of canvas threads are a record along with the photographs of the thread paintings
one time existence.
